Ingredients
Large Croissants (6-8 store-bought)
Deli Ham (6-8 slices)
Cheese (6-8 slices or 1 cup shredded) (cheddar, Swiss, provolone, or Gruyere)
Butter melted (2 tablespoons) (optional for brushing inside)
Dijon Mustard (1-2 teaspoons) (optional)
Egg (1 large)
Water or Milk (1 tablespoon)
Sesame Seeds or Everything Bagel Seasoning (1 teaspoon) (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Carefully slice each croissant horizontally almost all the way through, leaving one side attached to create a pocket.
3. If using Dijon mustard, spread a thin layer on the inside bottom half of each croissant.
4. Fold or roll one slice of deli ham and place it inside the croissant on top of the mustard (if using).
5. Place a slice or generous sprinkle of shredded cheese on top of the ham.
6. Gently bring the top half of each croissant over the fillings, pressing down lightly to secure.
7. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water or milk until well combined.
8. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of all the filled croissants with the egg wash.
9. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning over the tops.
10. Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the croissants are golden brown, puffy, and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
11. Remove from oven and let cool for 1-2 minutes on the baking sheet before serving warm.
Notes
For extra richness, brush melted butter inside the croissants before adding fillings. Do not overfill to prevent bursting. For best texture, serve warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 1 month. Reheat in oven at 350°F for 8-12 minutes or air fryer at 300°F for 3-5 minutes.
