The morning rush is real, isn’t it? Three little ones, all needing something different, all at once. Some days, I just crave a moment of peace, a little culinary magic without the fuss. That’s precisely when these incredible Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants became a staple in our household. I still remember the first time I whipped them up. It was a Saturday morning, a symphony of sleepy yawns and the clatter of toys beginning. I wanted something comforting, something that felt like a special treat but wouldn’t chain me to the kitchen. Pulling out store-bought croissants, a package of deli ham, and a block of my kids’ favorite cheese, I layered them up, brushed them with an egg wash, and slid them into the oven. The aroma that filled our kitchen as those golden, flaky pastries baked was pure bliss. My youngest, Leo, with his messy bedhead, practically floated into the kitchen, his eyes wide as he saw the bubbling cheese and crispy edges. A simple, quick recipe transformed a regular morning into a cozy, memorable experience. These aren’t just ham and cheese croissants; they’re a warm hug, a promise of a good day, and a reminder that simple food, made with love, truly feeds the soul. You’ll adore how effortlessly these come together, creating a savory sensation that everyone at your table will devour!

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 croissants

Ingredients

Large Croissants (6-8 store-bought)

Deli Ham (6-8 slices)

Cheese (6-8 slices or 1 cup shredded) (cheddar, Swiss, provolone, or Gruyere)

Butter melted (2 tablespoons) (optional for brushing inside)

Dijon Mustard (1-2 teaspoons) (optional)

Egg (1 large)

Water or Milk (1 tablespoon)

Sesame Seeds or Everything Bagel Seasoning (1 teaspoon) (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Carefully slice each croissant horizontally almost all the way through, leaving one side attached to create a pocket.

3. If using Dijon mustard, spread a thin layer on the inside bottom half of each croissant.

4. Fold or roll one slice of deli ham and place it inside the croissant on top of the mustard (if using).

5. Place a slice or generous sprinkle of shredded cheese on top of the ham.

6. Gently bring the top half of each croissant over the fillings, pressing down lightly to secure.

7. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water or milk until well combined.

8. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of all the filled croissants with the egg wash.

9. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning over the tops.

10. Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the croissants are golden brown, puffy, and the cheese is melted and bubbling.

11. Remove from oven and let cool for 1-2 minutes on the baking sheet before serving warm.

Notes

For extra richness, brush melted butter inside the croissants before adding fillings. Do not overfill to prevent bursting. For best texture, serve warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 1 month. Reheat in oven at 350°F for 8-12 minutes or air fryer at 300°F for 3-5 minutes.
