A quick, healthy, and incredibly delicious taco dip made with cottage cheese as the protein-rich base. Perfect for busy weeknights, parties, or meal prep, this no-cook dip is layered with salsa, shredded cheese, and fresh toppings for a crowd-pleasing appetizer or snack.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes (plus optional 30 min chill time)
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups cottage cheese (full-fat or low-fat)

1 packet (1 oz / 28g) taco seasoning

1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

1/2 cup salsa (mild, medium, or spicy)

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)

2 Roma tomatoes, diced

23 green onions, sliced

1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)

1 large avocado, diced

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Instructions

1. 1. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups cottage cheese and 1 packet taco seasoning. Stir until well mixed.

2. 2. Add 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt and mix until smooth and creamy.

3. 3. Transfer the cottage cheese mixture to a serving dish (8×8-inch or similar) and spread evenly.

4. 4. Gently spread 1/2 cup salsa over the cottage cheese layer.

5. 5. Sprinkle 1 cup shredded cheese over the salsa.

6. 6. Top with diced Roma tomatoes, sliced green onions, and sliced black olives (if using).

7. 7. Just before serving, dice the avocado and arrange on top. Garnish with fresh cilantro.

8. 8. For best flavor, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve chilled with tortilla chips, veggie sticks, or as a taco bowl component.

Notes

For a smoother texture, blend the cottage cheese in a food processor before mixing. To make ahead, prepare all layers except avocado and cilantro; add those just before serving. To adjust spiciness, use hot salsa, add diced jalapeños, or increase cayenne. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days (avocado may brown). Freezing not recommended.
