  • Total Time: 18 minutes
  • Yield: 4 sandwiches 1x

Ingredients

Scale

4 large croissants

8 slices deli ham

8 slices Swiss cheese

2 large eggs

1/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons powdered sugar (plus extra for dusting)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Optional: maple syrup or raspberry jam, for serving

Instructions

1. 1. Carefully slice each croissant in half horizontally.

2. 2. On bottom half of each croissant, layer 2 slices ham, 2 slices cheese, then 2 more slices ham. Top with croissant top. Gently press.

3. 3. In a shallow dish, whisk eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, and 2 tablespoons powdered sugar until smooth.

4. 4. Place a large non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add 1 tablespoon butter; let melt and coat pan.

5. 5. Quickly dip each sandwich into egg batter (few seconds per side) to lightly coat. Do not soak.

6. 6. Place dipped sandwich in skillet. Cook 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese melts. Adjust heat as needed. Repeat with remaining sandwiches, adding more butter if needed.

7. 7. Remove sandwiches to plates. Dust with additional powdered sugar.

8. 8. Serve immediately with warm maple syrup or raspberry jam for dipping, if desired.

Notes

Choose quality croissants for best texture. Do not over-soak in batter to avoid sogginess. Maintain medium-low heat to prevent burning. Serve immediately for optimal gooey cheese and crisp exterior. Store leftovers wrapped in fridge up to 2 days; reheat in oven or air fryer for best results.
